The Jayfolk: audio
These recordings of The Jayfolk, who were close friends with Roger Taylor and The Reaction, are courtesy of Penny North who was a singer in the all-girl group between 1967-69. The complete line-up at the time was Jill Johnson, Sue Johnstone, Josie James and Penny, with another girl called Sue playing flute on some tracks. The recordings are mono recordings made on a reel-to-reel tape recorder at Penny's home in Grampound. (Coincidentally -about one year later - Tim Staffell and Freddie Mercury stayed with Penny in the same house.)
Penny has more than 20 such songs recorded in this way: but these four lovely songs were, in my view, the best quality recordings that were made. Like The Reaction audio recordings on this blog, this is the first time recordings of The Jayfolk have been digitised and made available on the internet....
